Product description

FEATURES: VarniFlex FoodGrade BioHybrid, is a colorless, self-crosslinking, acrylic 1-component aqueous dispersion overprint and protective varnish, partially bio-based (45%) for carbon footprint reduction, and widely certified for food direct and indirect contact, according to European Regulation EU 10/2011. Food contact varnish with gloss finish, formulated with modified acrylic copolymers, free of Bisphenol A (BPA free), APEO, formaldehyde, phthalates, heavy metals, etc.

VarniFlex FoodGrade BioHybrid as a self-crosslinking varnish, although it is also air-drying, obtains its best and adequate performance for food contact packaging with a short forced drying time of up to 2 minutes at 80ºC or equivalent (depending on thickness and substrate).  Ideal balance of physicochemical performance in its category:

BioHybrid Technology: The Bio-Hybrid range of coatings significantly reduces the carbon footprint by using components made from plant resources, such as bark, which are sustainably sourced and do not compete with the food chain. VarniPack FoodGrade BioHybrid provides a Co2 equivalent emissions reduction of at least 58% over non-bio-based counterparts.

Product treated (BPR Art 3 and 58) with BioFilmStop FG antimicrobial technology, specific FoodGrade version, highly effectiveness tested against bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms such as coronavirus, and always according to EU 10/2011 and FDA 21 CFR 175.300 regulations. ISO 22196 and ISO 21702 effectiveness test (Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus subtillis, Pseudomonas aureginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteritidis, Legionella pnemophila, HUman and Feline Coronavirus). The paints and coatings of the Fakolith FoodGrade range contribute to the positive compliance with CE 852/2004, are manufactured under HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) according to CE 2023/2006 and/or FDA 21 CFR 174.5, improving the hygiene, food and health safety of surfaces and environments.

FIELDS OF USE:  Mainly used in direct, indirect or occasional contact with food, in single or repeated use food contact packaging, especially for flexible printed food packaging made of PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate), but also useful in certain cases of compatible packaging of MDF, paper and cardboard, labels, wood and other derivatives. It can be used on a wide variety of food packaging, from frozen food, fruit and vegetable, hamburger, sandwich and take-out food, to coffee cups, as well as other food contact surfaces. Also, for the protection and varnishing of parts and surfaces up to medium physicochemical stress, such as wood and derivatives, cooperage and wooden shelves,, plastics, 3D printing parts, in the food industry and auxiliary health sectors, hospitals, clinics, in industry, civil works and public and private buildings in general.

APPLICABLE: with most existing application methods in the printed packaging industry, flexo and gravure printing, anilox rollers, curtain coating, airknife coating, industrial spraying and other common systems compatible with aqueous dispersions. Also applicable in other sectors and in general with brush, roller, Airless or Air-Mix.

DRYING: forced drying with hot air, IR infrared lamps or equivalent systems that increase the temperature to at least 80ºC.

PERFORMANCE: Depending on the situation, type of base and subsequent use, we recommend between 12.5 ml. and 100 ml, applied in thin layers.
