Description of the problem

Especially in the food industry (also in other sectors) where industrial processes generate high humidity, condensation, vapors..., it is common the existence of mold, fungi, biofilm, paint flaking and other damages caused by moisture in walls and ceilings. In many cases they have been previously painted with plastic paint, or even with conventional "anti- mold or anti-humidity" plastic paint, but they show all kinds of flaws, being mold the most visible. These paintings, although initially cover and whiten the infection, at the end cause a rebound effect, and the infection reappears with more virulence shortly. Summary of the most common basic solution and procedure

1. SURFACE CLEANING:


· FAKOLITH FK-12: Application of moisture damage cleaner, such as mold, saltpeter, biofilm, and subsequent rinsing with water, to eliminate damage and after drying leave the base ready for the next treatment. Alternatively, or if necessary, can be used the BIOFILMSTOP Cleaner with HA Health Record for the elimination of biofilm, bacteria, fungi, virus or also the multifunctional industrial cleaner FK-111 for greasy dirt.


2. SURFACE PRIMER:  


· DISPERLITH PRIMER: Application of the fixing nano primer with high resistance to humidity, to consolidate the base and prevent the infection from regenerating from the inside. The base will be prepared for the adequate adhesion of the most suitable food-sanitary paint for each case.  


3. SURFACE PAINTING:


Final painting with 2 coats of the intelligent and sanitary technology paint BioFilmStop, suitable for use in the food industry (except when there is direct contact) and health sectors, with high resistance to moisture, to cleaning and disinfection, to molds, biofilm, bacteria…


Option A - DISPERLITH INDUSTRY: The most common for painting or repainting cement and concrete surfaces on walls and ceilings where the transpiration is more than convenient.


Option B - DISPERLITH ELASTICthe most common for painting or repainting surfaces with high incidence of cleaning and disinfection or where an elastic waterproofing paint and / or CE marking tests are required.  


 


Option C - DISPERLITH POX: is other option, water-based epoxy paint with CE marking which offers higher mechanical performance.

Application process

1.- FK-12

DESCRIPTION AND MAIN USE: FAKOLITH FK-12 is a detergent cleaner for use on damages, mainly water related, such as hygroscopic salts, mould and microorganisms, or dirt and grime in general, up to a medium level on surfaces resistant to acidic solutions. Mainly for use in the food industry, industry in general, construction and civil engineering. Health Register FAKOLITH RGSEAA ES-39.005259/T y ROESP E-0043-E.

RECOMMENDED THINNER: 1 part FK-12 to 4 parts water. Can also be used undiluted if necessary, in more contaminated areas or when speed of action is required.

HOW TO APPLY: Carefully protect all surfaces that are not to be treated from splashing. Apply diluted FK-12 using spray guns, brushes or rollers and immediately activate the product by scrubbing with a brush with stiff plastic bristles, working particularly on the worst affected areas. Allow 5-15-20 minutes to pass, although always before it has dried, and then wash off and rinse thoroughly using water under pressure. If so required the operation can be repeated. AVERAGE YIELD: Undiluted FK-12 provides a yield of approx. 8-12 litre/m², although depending on the extent of the contamination this may vary considerably.

2.- DISPERLITH Primer

PROPERTIES: DISPERLITH PRIMER is a special water-based, low VOC, transpirable primer, based on hybrid nano-resins, with quartz nanospheres, that provides excellent penetrability, adherence, permeability to water vapour and resistance to surface alkalinity.

BIOFILMSTOP SANITARY TECHNOLOGY (Treated Article BPR Art.3): DISPERLITH Primer is an intelligent sanitary primer, treated with BioFilmStop inhibition technology highly resistant to biofilm bacteria and mould, DIN-UNE EN 15457:2008 (Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Penicillium, Algae…), as well as bacteria, ISO 22196:2011 (Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus subtillis, Pseudonomas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteritidis, Legionella pneumophila...). The products in the Disperlith range positively contribute to compliance with (EC) 852/2004, are manufactured subject to HACCP and GMP (EC) 2023/2006, also notably improving HACCP, food safety and asepsis for the user company. RECOMMENDED USE: DISPERLITH Primer is particularly recommended as a general primer for the DISPERLITH range of paints, as it allows the paint to be applied with good adhesion and regulated absorption to mineral surfaces, either new or previously painted, to plaster and plasterboard type surfaces, and also as a bridge between silicate, silicon, sol-silicate or dispersion, on walls, ceilings and surfaces in general, both interior and exterior.

HOW TO APPLY: Carefully protect all surfaces that are not to be treated from splashing. Application can take place at ambient and surface temperatures of 5ºC or over. Generally, apply an abundant coat of DISPERLITH Primer using brush, roller or airless spray gun, onto surfaces that are clean and as dry as possible, and then let them dry before going ahead with the subsequent painting. AVERAGE YIELD: DISPERLITH PRIMER provides a yield of approx. 4-10 m2/l, although this may vary considerably depending on how it is applied, and the texture and absorption of the surface it is applied to.

3.- Option A - DISPERLITH INDUSTRY

PROPERTIES: DISPERLITH Industry special water-based dispersion paint, formulated with 100% pure acrylates, low emissions and low odour (Low Voc), free of APEO, ammonium, formaldehyde and heavy metals, highly resistant to dampness/humidity, for interior and exterior use. DISPERLITH Industry forms a well-balanced film of paint that is easy to apply, quick drying, low odour and provides an excellent finish, in line with the DIN EN 13300 Standard, wet scrub resistance Class 1, covering Class 1 (250 ml/m²), water vapour transpiration Class 2 (SD = 0.27), and water permeability Class 3 (W = 0.08). Excellent adhesion on surfaces of all kinds, (direct tensile adhesion on glazed tiles 80-100 kg/cm² UNE-EN ISO 4624-2002, Cross-cut test Class 1 UNE-EN ISO 2409:2007. Paint resistant to the most disinfectant cleaners according to Tests DIN EN ISO 4628-2: 2004-01 by TÜV SÜD Germany and/or Fakolith R&D+i. Highly resistant to surface carbonation and alkalinity. It could be applied at temperatures of 5ºC or over and up to a maximum relative humidity of 75%. Available in white and other colours.

RECOMMENDED USE: DISPERLITH Industry is mainly recommended for ceilings and walls, interior or exterior, and is compatible with most surfaces, duly primed, should such be required, and to cover well-adhered previous coats of dispersion or priming paints, resistant to cross-cut test Class 0-1 UNE-DIN EN ISO 2409:2007. Particularly in severe industrial, climate or sanitary conditions, for the food industry, health sector, and pharmaceutical or cosmetics industry in general, construction and civil engineering.

HOW TO APPLY: Carefully protect all surfaces that are not to be treated from splashing. Application can take place at ambient and surface temperatures as low as 5ºC and up to a maximum relative humidity of 75%. Following adequate preparation of the surface DISPERLITH Industry should be applied undiluted, in two coats, using brushes, rollers or airless spray guns. The surface must be clean, free of hygroscopic salts, microorganisms, etc. and, should such be required, duly primed. Do not apply the second until the first coat has lost its wet sheen and is dry to the touch (in normal conditions, of around 20ºC with a humidity of around 60%, this will be in approx. 2-3 hours). 3.- Option B - DISPERLITH ELASTIC

PROPERTIES: DISPERLITH Elastic special water-based dispersion paint, formulated with modified acrylates copolymers, low emissions and low odour (Low Voc), free of APEO, ammonium, formaldehyde and heavy metals, highly resistant to dampness and humidity, for interior and exterior use. DISPERLITH Elastic forms a well-balanced and elastic film of paint, with a satin finish, that is easy to clean and disinfect, easy to apply and, quick drying, also at low temperatures, from 3ºC, with low odour and providing an excellent finish, in line with the DIN EN 13300 Standard, wet scrub resistance Class 1, covering Class 1 (>250 ml/m²), highly impermeable to water vapour, Class 3 (SD = 1.57), and water permeability Class 1 (W = 0.03). It could be applied at temperatures of 3ºC or over and up to a maximum relative humidity of 75%. DISPERLITH Elastic is a paint with (EC) UNE-EN 1504-2:2005 marking and that is highly resistant to Class 1 and 2 aggressive chemical attack, with testing of the food simulants, along with the usual cleaning and disinfecting agents in their maximum recommended solutions, TECNALIA Report 050844 and Tests DIN EN ISO 4628-2: 2004-01 by TÜV SÜD Germany and/or Fakolith R&D+i (For more security, before use, ask your case to our Tech. RECOMMENDED USE: DISPERLITH Elastic is designed for interior and exterior use, and is compatible with most surfaces, duly primed should, such be required, and to cover well-adhered previous coats of dispersion or priming paints, resistant to cross-cut test Class 0-1 UNE-DIN EN ISO 2409:2007. Its excellent covering and water-vapour barrier qualities mean that it functions as an excellent waterproofing film, particularly in severe industrial, climate or sanitary conditions, for the food industry, health sector, and pharmaceutical or cosmetics industry in general, construction and civil engineering (for contact with foods in open areas use the version DISPERLITH Foodgrade Elastic).

HOW TO APPLY: Carefully protect all surfaces that are not to be treated from splashing. Application can take place at ambient and surface temperatures as low as 2-3ºC and up to a maximum relative humidity of 75%. Following adequate preparation of the surface DISPERLITH Elastic should be applied undiluted, in two coats, using brushes, rollers or airless spray guns. The surface must be clean, free of hygroscopic salts, microorganisms, etc. and, should such be required, duly primed. 3.- Option C - DISPERLITH POX

PROPERTIES: DISPERLITH Pox is a two-component, water-based epoxy paint with CE Marking, formulated using special epoxy resins, low emissions and low odour (Low Voc), free of APEO, ammonium, formaldehyde and heavy metals, waterproof highly resistant to abrasion, dampness/humidity and the consequences thereof, for interior use. DISPERLITH Pox forms a well-balanced film of paint, highly resistant to stains, easy to apply, quick drying, low odour and providing an excellent finish, in line with the DIN EN 13300 Standard, wet scrub resistance Class1 and coverage Class 1. Excellent adhesion on all kind of surfaces. Highly resistant to surface carbonation and alkalinity. It could be applied at temperatures as low as 2-3ºC and up to a maximum relative humidity of 75%. Paint resistant to the most disinfectant cleaners according to Tests DIN EN ISO 4628-2: 2004-01 by TÜV SÜD Germany and/or Fakolith R&D+i (For more security, before use, ask your case to our Tech. Department). Available in white. Other colours consult availability and minimum quantity to order.

RECOMMENDED USE: DISPERLITH Pox is mainly recommended for use on walls, ceilings and skirting boards, and is compatible with most surfaces, duly primed should such be required, lacquer-finish sandwich panels, and to cover well-adhered previous coats of dispersion and/or priming paints. Resistant to cross-cut test Class 0-1 UNE-DIN EN ISO 2409:2007, the excellent qualities of this paint ensure that it functions as a hybrid, between a water-based dispersion and an epoxy paint, with improved physicochemical resistance, particularly in severe industrial, climate or sanitary conditions, for the food industry, health sector, and pharmaceutical or cosmetics industry in general, construction and civil engineering.

HOW TO APPLY: Carefully protect all surfaces that are not to be treated from splashing. Apply DISPERLITH Pox using brushes, rollers or airless spray guns. The surface must be clean, free of hygroscopic salts, microorganisms, etc. and, should such be required, duly primed. Following suitable preparation of the surface, slowly pour component A into component B (never the other way round), mix together gently using an electric mixer, for at least 2 minutes or until the components have blended completely together, and then leave to rest for 1 minute before starting to apply. When mixing always use complete batches of component A and component B, to avoid errors in the mixing ratio. Drying times and the length of time you will have to wait between coats will depend on the actual thickness of each coat, temperature, level of relative humidity and ventilation. However, generally speaking you will not have to wait for more than 1-4 hours before applying a second coat. Clean utensils immediately after use with water.
